  • Roll a ball of bright red dough your desired width and about 3/4" to 1" high.
  • Slightly flatten the ball and smooth into the shape shown in the illustration.
  • Insert your candle into the center of the dough about 1/2" deep.  Withdraw the candle and set aside.
  • Shape 5 or 6 holly leaves and fuse one over the other as shown in the illustration covering half of the top surface of the dough.
  • Roll 3 tiny red dough balls and fuse to the top of each leaf.  You can also use yellow for more color.
  • Let air-dry for 3 or 4 hours and then bake until hard at 225 degrees.
  • When hard, glue flowers over the half of the dough without leaves on the top and side areas.  Do not glue flowers where candle will be inserted.

Feel free to use your own creative touches on this project.

Make your dough art candle holder in different colors or give it a more contemporary look.  The leaves can also be a pale green with darker green splashes of paint in the center for a contrast.

There is really no end to what you can do.  And you don't have to keep this a Christmas project.  It can be changed to reflect any time of the year.  Go to a candle store for ideas.
